Discovering the Indian Coastline...
Another new year, another reason to explore the world. I had international tours on my mind last time but this year, I am sorting through the best beaches in my country to kick back and relax. Scattered across India's 7500 km long coastline, here are the top 10 beaches that will surprise and satisfy you with India's coastal beauty.
Goa beach holiday
When in doubt, go to Goa! There really cannot be anything wrong with the party capital of India. In a place where people can be seen sunbathing, swimming, parasailing or drinking cold beer all year round in their hammock, Goa is my first choice. In fact, Goa is the best place to start your beach eruption in advance with Sunburn Goa this December! Sunburn is when a group of party mongers and DJs from around the world gather on Candolim Beach for the grandest New Year beach party. Late night parties, compelling music and dancing people; Sunburn rapidly increases the fun quotient.
Gokarna Beach Holiday
Gokarna in Karnataka is located 190 km south of Goa and makes an amazing change at the fast pace of Goa! Famous for the Mahabaleshwar Temple and its pristine beaches, in this tranquil city, you can enjoy a day sitting in the sun or lying in the hammock and read a book without getting distracted. Gokarna is well connected to major cities via buses and trains and the nearest airport is Dabolim Airport in Goa. Although an important pilgrimage site, Gokarna mixes religion with the fun of the beach. Om Beach, Paradise Beach and Half-Moon Beach are famous, with both fine sand and rocky beaches, mostly untouched by commercial activities.
Ganpatipule Beach Holiday
Ganapatipule, a small coastal town in Maharashtra, has a grand beach, one of the most spectacular on the Konkan coast. The beach has distinctive red sand and shallow water, making it ideal for swimming. Ganapatipule can be visited en route to Ratnagiri and is just 35 km from the famous Jaigad Fort, which offers a panoramic view of the sea and villages from the cliff. Ganapatipule is also famous for the Swayambhu Ganesh Temple where the idol of Lord Ganesha originated from the ground.
